LONDON, July 13, 2025 – A heartbreaking aviation accident occurred at London Southend Airport when a Dutch-operated medical plane crashed just moments after take-off, turning the plane into a giant fireball and triggering a full emergency response.
The plane, a Beechcraft B200 Super King Air, belonged to Jewish Aviation and was headed to Lelystad in the Netherlands on a medical transport mission.
Witnesses said the twin-engine propeller plane had just left the runway when it suddenly veered sharply to the left, flipped in midair and crashed to the ground, exploding on impact.
“It tilted left, flipped upside down, and hit the ground nose-first. A huge fireball shot up instantly,” recounted John Johnson, a local witness.
Emergency response and evacuation
When the incident occurred, British authorities issued a “serious incident” warning. Within minutes, Essex Police, fire and rescue teams, ambulances and even an air ambulance were on the scene. Nearby areas, such as Rochford Hundred Golf Club and Westcliff Rugby Club, were immediately evacuated for safety.
The airport was immediately closed, causing all EasyJet flights to places like Paris, Alicante and Palma to be cancelled or rerouted.
Victims and investigation
As of now, we don’t have a clear idea of how many people were on board the plane or the number of casualties, but usually, the plane can accommodate around 7 to 9 passengers. So far, there have been no official reports confirming any survivors or deaths.
A joint investigation led by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) and Essex Police is underway to find out what went wrong. As per initial estimates, it could be a mechanical failure or pilot error, but neither possibility has been completely ruled out yet.
