More than 500 people detained, National Guard deployed as tensions rise in Los Angeles and elsewhere
A wave of aggressive ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) raids sweeping through Los Angeles and several other major cities has sparked nationwide protests and prompted urgent responses from local governments.
This crackdown is part of a larger effort by federal authorities to ramp up mass deportations, which has drawn fierce criticism from immigrant rights groups and civil society.
What’s Happening :
Recently, ICE carried out extensive raids throughout Los Angeles, resulting in the detention of more than 575 people, which included immigrants, protestors, and even journalists.
In light of the growing public unrest, the Governor of California declared a state of emergency, calling in the National Guard and U.S. Marines to help manage the situation.
